Diving Into Different Minds
Uncommon Minds was honoured to be part of AXA XL’s Dive In Festival, championing workplace inclusivity on a global scale.
Dr Vivien Yang (Co-founder of Uncommon Minds) and Dr Perpetua Neo (Uncommon Minds Ambassador) joined panellists Elly Both and Dr Ooi Boon Keat for an engaging discussion on neurodiversity facilitated by Aparna Kumar from Marsh McLennan.
The conversation challenged common misconceptions and highlighted a shift from a deficit-focused approach to a strengths-based perspective. Panellists explored the challenges faced by neurodivergent individuals while sharing strategies to harness their unique talents and abilities.
Dr Perpetua highlighted the often invisible struggles of high-performing neurodivergent professionals, emphasising that they are not seeking lower standards, excuses, or sympathy. In fact, the combination of a Type A personality and neurodiversity often drives them to over-deliver, taking on responsibilities well beyond their scope.
As Dr Yang explained, neurodiversity isn’t about lowering expectations—it’s about removing barriers and creating flexibility so all minds can thrive. At Uncommon Minds, we continue to celebrate the stories and strengths of neurodivergent individuals in Singapore, including adults whose “invisible strengths” are making a real impact on workplaces and communities.
A heartfelt thank you to AXA XL for championing inclusivity on a global scale — it’s been an honour to contribute to this important conversation.
